George Raymond Payne, M.D.
Dr. Payne is a Virginia native who graduate Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree from University of Richmond.
He received his medical degree from the University of Virginia and then completed his internship and residency in orthopaedic surgery at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.
While there, he served as the Sports Medicine physician for the Dartmouth Sports Teams.
then pursued his
passion in joint reconstruction by getting additional training in an orthopaedic fellowship in total joint replacement at one of the nation's leading joint replacement centers, the Rothman Institute
and Thomas Jefferson University
expertise is in the prevention and treatment of joint disorders including sports medicine and minimally invasive arthroscopic surgical techniques.
also specializes in total joint replacement of the knee, hip, and shoulder.
has a unique interest in minimally invasive muscle sparing approaches to the knee and hip.
performs the Quadriceps sparing approach to the knee and the popular "Jiffy Hip" using a muscle sparing direct anterior approach to the hip.
He practices at Sentara Princess Anne Hospital where he is Director of The Center for Joint Replacement and Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital.
He is board certified in orthopaedic surgery and is an active member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons.
has also published in several peer reviewed text books on total joint replacement.
