The Allen home site, where chimneys still stand, was recently identified as an important Civil War campsite through work by historian Hail Bryant, archaeologist/historian/writer Freeman Mobley and archaeologist Tammy Hilburn, all of Batesville, in conjunction with Allen relatives Deanna Lee Stephens and her son Jason Stephens.

Data to go along with an aerial photograph also taken of the property was gathered from interviews with people in the area and an on-site inspection by Bryant, Mobley, Hilburn and others.
