The acting regional manager of the SABC in Limpopo, Freddy Sadiki, officially launched the "Adopt a School" project at Manaledzi Secondary school at Tshiozwi village a fortnight ago. According to Sadiki, the SABC´s Adopt a School project is an SABC Education initiative to help improve the Grade 12 year-end results. "The formal education and outreach units of SABC Education identify low-performing schools and analyze the reasons contributing to the poor performance. The units then try and develop a turn-around strategy in consultation with the schools, communities, districts and the provincial and national departments of education," he said. He added that the adopted schools had been equipped with the technological capacity that gives learners access to content provided by SABC Education and other programmes to help pupils obtain good results at the end of Grade 12. He further outlined that the emphasis will be on mathematics, science, biology and English. According to Sadiki, who is Phalaphala FM's manager, the SABC has identified and installed the equipment suitable to meet all needs of the project.

During the event, Mr Sadiki said the public broadcaster and SAPS were proud to be part of the "good deed aimed at uplifting the community. We asked the community and different structures to nominate a poverty stricken family. We wanted to identify those without proper shelter and who usually don´t know where their next plate of food will come from," he said. He said it was the government and the private sector's collective duty to fight and win the war against poverty.
