Raleigh's Hobby Properties, which owns Person Street Plaza on the northwest corner of Franklin
and Person streets, wants to demolish the shopping center and replace it with a mixed-use center. The new center would have ground-level space for restaurants, offices and stores, and two levels above it for condominiums. Franklin Holmes, president of J.T. Hobby & Son Inc. and Hobby Properties, said the company recently met with neighbors to discuss the plans. He
hopes to be able to lease space in the center to a small grocery, restaurants and professional office tenants. The company has requested that the city rezone the property.
