Pilot Frank Vogt, 28, Makes Emergency Landing On Garden State Roadway In Thick Of Rush Hour Traffic
...
All courtesy of pilot Frank Vogt, who was up in the air providing traffic reports Monday morning for Metro Networks when he had no choice but to turn one of the Garden State's signature roadways into his personal landing strip.
"We were just lined up with the highway and used the lights as a dry runway," said Vogt.
He says it wasn't long before his engine started sputtering, and his instrument showed a loss of oil pressure. The oil could be seen on the ground and all over the underbelly of the plane, reports CBS station WCBS-TV in New York City.
Vogt, who is also a flight instructor, says he and his traffic reporter knew they would never make it to Philadelphia International Airport. They needed to land immediately.
"Instincts take over. You just kind of have to just look for a place to land and stuff," said Vogt.
...
While the 28-year-old pilot may not have the experience of the now famous Pilot Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger, Vogt clearly gets a thumbs up for pulling off his own "Miracle on the Turnpike."
"It still hasn't hit me that I landed on the turnpike," he said.
