Frank Miller, the executive producer of the East Tennessee Scholars' Bowl, has worked with the competition since its inception in Knoxville in 1984, and says that achievements like these mean that "all of our hard work has paid off - schools, principals and most of all the kids."

...
Miller says that in his 30 years with PBS' Scholars' Bowl, a ranking like this has been very rare but Oak Ridge has proved its locally on several occasions. "They have won the East Tennessee PBS tournament five times during the course of 30 years. The East Tennessee PBS tournament includes approximately 46 high schools from East Tennessee and Kentucky who compete in the trivia-style show. Other schools that have taken home first place honors in years past include Webb School of Knoxville, West High School and Kingsport schools Sullivan South and Dobyns-Bennett.
Miller says that what he loves most about competitions like the Scholars' Bowl is that it has recognized some outstanding students and teams over the years.
...
The PBS Scholars' Bowl just celebrated its 30th year in East Tennessee and on the air, an achievement that Miller says he is proud to have been a part of. Although he is retired now, he still volunteers his time with the Scholars' Bowl, gathering the questions, finding judges and helping schools sign up for the tournament. And of course, designing the T-shirts.
"I pass out those things to every person I can find. I want people to know about these students and their coaches who work so hard to get them here," says Miller
