Frank Diaz Escalet was born in Puerto Rico and served in the U.S. Air Force base before beginning his art career. Originally focusing on leathercraft, he created leather clothing for the Rolling Stones, Areatha Franklin and was commissioned by the Museum of Modern Art in New York to create leather seat covers for their sculpture garden seating. Diaz Escalet has a visual disability and finds he can only work a few hours a day on his art. He currently lives and works in Maine on artwork that is primitive and impressionistic using a variety of media.
