Florin Parvulescu was born in 1971 in Bucharest,Romania. He began violin lessons at the age of six at the Georges Enescu primary school. In 1978 his family immigrated to the United States where shortly thereafter he enrolled in the Pre-College division of the Juilliard School in the class of Shirley Givens. In 1989 he went on to study at the Peabody Conservatory of Music where his principal teachers were Sylvia Rosenberg and Herbert Greenberg. He also worked closely with pianist Leon Fleisher and the late Berl Senofsky. In addition to earning Bachelor and Artist Diploma degrees at Peabody, Mr.Parvulescu was awarded numerous scholarships and prizes, among them the Marbury award and a prize at the Yale Gordon Competition. He appeared regularly on recital series at the Walters Art Gallery in Baltimore and in chamber music performances at the Kennedy Center in Washington,DC as well as in St.Louis, Victoria BC, Heidelberg,Germany and Fontainebleau,France. He has been featured on the McGraw Hill Young Artist Showcase on WQXR and on National Public Radio. Mr. Parvulescu joined the St.Louis Symphony in 1996 staying until 1998 when he became a member of the San Francisco Symphony. He has regularly appeared on the SFSO Chamber Series and throughout the Bay Area as soloist and chamber musician. The San Francisco Chronicle praised him for his "gleaming tone and pyrotechnical virtuosity".
