"If parents were fans when they were kids-loved the entertainment, collected the merchandise and wore the T-shirt-they are going to react favorably to a new version of an IP they loved and engaged with," says Finn Arnesen, the senior VP of global distribution and development at Hasbro Studios.
"We took the time and paid careful attention to our audiences around the world, and we reimagined our new Transformers universe with a more lighthearted touch," Arnesen says. "We did away with some of the darker and more serious elements of Transformers: Prime and made Transformers: Robots in Disguise more accessible to our core audience of kids ages 4 to 7 and their parents."
According to Arnesen, reimagining a classic property is a complex business and needs much more commitment and thought than a quick tweak.

During his 17-year tenure at TBS, Arnesen generated higher ratings and revenues while overseeing programming and development for the Turner-owned networks, the start up and management of Cartoon Network Studios London and program management of Cartoon Network Europe as part of his broad portfolio.
At Cartoon Network Europe, Arnesen commissioned and executive produced its first wholly owned U.K.-produced seriesSkatoony, an unprecedented animated game show with real-life kid contestants. The show reflected his global efforts to expand the kids' genre and audience with new live-action formats produced through Turner alone and European co-production partners.
Prior to Turner, Arnesen held posts at ScreenSport, the European Sports Network and Sky Sports. He has a Bachelor of Arts honors degree in French and drama from the University of Warwick.

Finn Arnesen
SVP GM Original Series & International Development, Turner Broadcasting System International
Finn Arnesen is Senior Vice President and General Manager for Original Series in Europe, Africa and the Middle East (EMEA) and Turner Broadcasting Systems (TBS) International Development.
Arnesen represents all of TBS International on the global Greenlight Committee for Cartoon Network Originals, and liaises with the Company's Asian and Latin American channel heads to ensure that it is developing the most impactful and popular new content for the future. In this pan-regional role, he is tasked with increasing original content in the region by developing more wholly owned and co-produced content. In addition, he plays a key role in the distribution of Turner's original content to third parties throughout EMEA.
Based in Turner's London office, another facet of Arnesen's role is responsibility for the Cartoon Network Development Studio Europe, which opened in Soho, London in Q1 2007 following substantial investment by the company. The studio is set up with a view to wholly owning and producing original series from Europe, as well as continuing to co-produce with European partners.
Arnesen reports directly to Jeff Kupsky, President of TBS Europe Limited, for EMEA and for his international development role, reports to Juan Carlos Urdaneta, President of TBS Latin America; Steve Marcopoto, President of TBS Asia and Jeff Kupsky.
Arnesen joined Turner Entertainment Networks International in 1993 and has been instrumental in developing the programming for the networks and beyond. He supervised all day to day programming, operations and development for Cartoon Network, including creative input into on-air promotions and themes as well as the development of scheduling strategy.
Committed to bringing cartoon fans original European animation, Arnesen has worked on hit European co-productions of The Cramp Twins with TV Loonland, based on books by British author Brian Wood, and Robotboy with Alphanim, which also airs on Cartoon Network USA, and all other Cartoon Network regions.
Additionally Arnesen commissioned and executive produced Cartoon Network's first wholly owned UK produced show Skatoony, which is also the first animated game show with real life kid contestants. There is a second series currently in production.
Prior to joining Turner, Arnesen worked for ScreenSport (the European Sports Network) from 1989-93 as well as a brief stint as Sky Sports. He has a Bachelor of Arts Honours Degree in French and Drama from the University of Warwick and is a proud Charlton Athletic Season Ticket holder.
Foothill Entertainment - Press Release, 16 Mar 2005 [cached]
Finn Arnesen, svp of original animation & acquisitions in Europe for the Cartoon Network, Boomerang, Toonami, and Turner Entertainment Networks International, may have stated the obvious, but also laid out Cartoon Network's rationale for multiple international channels. "Every five years there's another five year old who comes fresh to our programs," he said.
On the programming side of things, ..., 1 Sept 2003 [cached]
On the programming side of things, Cartoon Network Europe's veteran VP of programming, development and acquisitions Finn Arnesen will now also serve as head of program production for Cartoon Network International.
The new part of Arnesen's remit puts him squarely in charge of working with the international channels to source and develop original shows that could air globally. 'I'm excited about being able to club together and actually make some more forward-thinking and strategic decisions about what we buy, make and do.' Global opportunities sometimes used to fall victim to the lengthy consulting process that was involved in getting all of the channels on-board a project, says Arnesen, 'and I didn't always feel that we were cohesive.'
Although he's looking forward to surveying the Asian-Pacific market for new concepts and partners in the coming months, Arnesen also feels that Europe's potential hasn't been completely tapped. 'I think the animation and idea talent is not being fully exploited in France, Spain and Italy.' Concepts often originate at small studios that don't have the resources to flesh them out and market them, and that's where Arnesen thinks Cartoon International could step in.
Besides working on a second series of The Cramp Twins with TV-Loonland and Robotboy (the first international co-pro that Cartoon Network US is involved in) with Alphanim, Arnesen and his team are currently evaluating a couple of new pilots commissioned by CNE - My Best Friend by Gorillaz creator Pete Candeland and Stu Connelly, and Good Kid Bad Kid from Chris Garbutt and Dave Needham.
