Pianist Fernando Herrera, who was a surprise guest entertainer at TMC's recent fundraiser (graciously filling in some unexpected open stage time for us that night) is doing a special free concert on Sunday, Nov. 21, at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, 125 W. Whittier Street, just south of downtown. off S. Presa.
An exhibit and sale of his art, from 2:30 to 4 p.m., precedes the 4:30 p.m. concert, which features Herrera and Michael Lerma (known internationally as "Fernando & Michael"), as well as William Chapman (one of S.A.'s "Three Tenors") and San Antonio Mastersinger Lindsay Van de Hey.

The Texas Music Coalition's free Tuesday, March 15 program at Olmos Bharmacy/Patty Lou's, 3902 McCullough at Hildebrand, featured "a voice of experience" - international performing artist Fernando Herrera.
Herrera will spoke on his amazing career in music that spans most of his 80 years, as well as demonstrating his copyrighted tremolino technique, which has enabled him to replicate the flamenco guitar's tremolo on piano. (He has won acclaim on both instruments.)
...
The most memorable performance for Herrera personally was playing for President John F. Kennedy's event in Houston the night before the assassination in 1963.
...
A two-part series on Fernando Herrera's life in music and art can be viewed at www.satodayscatholic.com/HerreraPt1.aspx and www.satodayscatholic.com/Herrera_pt2.aspx.
Herrera was a surprise guest performer at TMC's fundraiser at the El Tropicano Riverwalk last October.

Then came a surprise performance by an event attendee, noted pianist Fernando Herrera, who graciously agreed to fill an empty time slot and literally burned out the keys on Joel Williams' borrowed keyboard! (Herrera is accustomed to displaying his rapid-fire "tremolino" on a grand piano.

Herrera also spoke briefly on his music and there was much interest afterwards in two newspaper articles TMC 1st Vice President Carol Sowa had written on his amazing career in music and art that were pulled out and placed on the entry table afterwards. (For those who missed reading the stories, online versions are available at www.satodayscatholic.com/HerreraPt1.aspx and www.satodayscatholic.com/Herrera_pt2.aspx.)
...
After that, Luke Olson, who brought along his lovely wife and kiddos, entertained us with his Texas Country music, followed by jazz/blues/pop classics pros Bett Butler and Joël Dilley as "Art of the Duet" - Bett sans keyboard since the one on hand hadn't recovered from Fernando yet!
