Dr. Ferna Phillips, Ph.D
Dr. Ferna L. Phillips received her BA in History from Salem State University and her Master of Education degree in Counseling from Suffolk University.
She also holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Counseling Psychology from Boston College.
is a committed Christian who brings her
extensive gifts and talents to the faith sector.
is very involved in the life of her
church as well as the community.
is an Ordained Deacon at the Massachusetts Avenue Baptist Church, Cambridge, MA.
She served as their Treasurer for two years and was a member of the Trustee Board for over twelve years.
She is currently responsible for teaching new members class and has been the Coordinator and Chairperson of the Women's Ministry/Fellowship.
She is a member of the Massachusetts Association of Baptist Deacons and Deaconesses.
She also serves as a delegate to the Samuel Stillman Association of The American Baptist Churches of Massachusetts (TABCOM) and participated on and in numerous ordination council hearings.
Dr. Phillips is an experienced administrator and educator.
She has spent her career in leadership positions in both public and higher education.
She is an adjunct professor at Boston University and serves as a Site Supervisor for prospective undergraduate student teachers at the university.
At Boston College, she was the Director of the Office of Learning Resources for Student-Athletes, where she provided academic advisement, career services, personal and educational counseling primarily to undergraduate students.
The university received continuous national recognition for outstanding graduation rates and program development while under her
She has also been a mentor and supervisor to many graduate students pursuing masters and doctoral degrees and has taught graduate and undergraduate courses in the areas of Higher Educational Administration and Educational Leadership.
She has also been and continues to be an educational consultant for program development and evaluation to colleges and universities in the Greater Boston area.
is a native Bostonian and is very interested in local history.
She serves on the Board of Directors for the Boston Women's Heritage Trail.
enjoys assisting on the guided tours and learning new facts about the City of Boston and the place of women in its history.
She is also a member of the Board of Directors - Big Brother Big Sister Association of Massachusetts Bay.
