Senate Fiscal Affairs Chairman Felix Mendiola reported yesterday that the budget conference committee was still working on the appropriation bill. But he expressed hope to have the work done in time for today's Senate session.

"We're looking forward to concluding it today (Thursday), so we can have the bill ready for Senate action. We've got everyone involved in the talks-the Senate, the House, the Office of Management and Budget, and the Department of Finance.Once agreed upon, this budget is going to fly," Mendiola said.
He said there were several more adjustments made to the budget bill.
One of them is an additional reduction to Legislature's operations budget. Some $86,000 from the Legislature's funding has been transferred to the Saipan Mayor's Office for programs such as the elimination of junk cars and the operation of a dog pound, Mendiola said.
The conference committee was formed after the Lower House on Aug. 16, 2006 rejected the latest budget version passed by the Senate two weeks prior.
