Chef Felipe Armenta was already an established name in Fort Worth with The Tavern. But even so, it would have been hard to predict the unprecedented fabulousness of Pacific Table, his new casual seafood restaurant in the old La Piazza space. The menu runs from snappy sushi rolls to oysters on the half-shell, with sandwiches and salads on the low end offset by a $28 filet mignon. And the decor is divine, with lots of artsy woodwork and in the center, chic high stools that pull up to a white terrazzo bar (which is invariably thronged with beautiful people waiting for a table reservations for big parties only, boo). Seafood was already looming as a big trend; with Pacific Table, Armenta has bumped it up.

Pacific Table, the chic new restaurant from chef Felipe Armenta, proves that the seafood trend is no fluke. Oysters on the half shell, sushi rolls and salmon with sticky rice are just a few of the culinary thrills at this hot spot not far from TCU. Droves of diners families, couples and the random well-heeled student or two are digging into fish as if they all grew up on the coast. With no reservations for parties under six, the wait exceeds an hour during peak times.
But the excitement surrounding Pacific Table also reflects the chops and versatility of Armenta. While his other Fort Worth restaurant, The Tavern, is none too shabby, it has a populist demeanor, with enchiladas and brisket tacos that makes the refinement at Pacific Table that much more of an unexpected revelation.

Pacific Table, new from The Tavern Bar & Grill chef Felipe Armenta, has posted an affordable menu of seafood platters for about $20, sushi, oysters, salads and sandwiches.
Armenta originally named the restaurant Union Pacific for the nearby rail yard, then liked the Pacific theme for his California-casual seafood restaurant with a few steak and chicken dishes and a special aged prime rib ($26).
