Eyck Zimmer crowned in UK's Premier Chef Competition
Eyck Zimmer, Executive Chef of The Lowry Hotel in Manchester, triumphed at the grand final of the most prestigious competition in the chef calendar, to take the coveted title of KNORR National Chef of the Year 2006. Eyck Zimmer also scooped the prize for Best Main Course, with Best Starter awarded to Craig Sandle, Sous Chef of The Balmoral Hotel in Edinburgh, and Best Dessert awarded to Robert Szewczyk, Head Chef of Cumberland Lodge. Our heartfelt congratulations go to Eyck Zimmer on achieving victory in such a competitive grand final.” Eyck Zimmer now joins the exclusive group of previous winners of this most esteemed competition, run by the Craft Guild of Chefs in partnership with KNORR, which includes Gordon Ramsay, Roger Narbett, Kevin Viner, Mark Sargeant and most recently Steve Love, who won the title in 2004.

Eyck Zimmer was appointed Executive Chef of The Lowry Hotel in July 2005, German born Eyck joins The Lowry Hotel from The Ritz in London . In 2006 he was awarded National Chef of the Year a title he will retain for 2 years. Eyck, is an internationally acclaimed, award- winning chef, and during his time at The Lowry Hotel, he has won Manchester Chef of the Year at the Manchester Food and Drink Festival and The River Restaurant has won restaurant of the year at the Manchester Tourism Awards. With 40 culinary awards under his belt, Eyck will bring a wealth of international experience to restaurant jobs given that he has worked in some of the best restaurants in the world. Eyck has enjoyed a career that has included posts at some of London 's most prestigious five star hotels including The Dorchester, The Berkeley, The Lanesborough and Claridges. Eyck has won a large number of first class industry awards and in 2000 was awarded the prestigious Master of Culinary Arts (MCA), formerly the Meilleur Ouvrier de Grande Bretagne (MOGB) by the Academy of Culinary Arts, which has only ever been won by 13 chefs in the UK.

Follow his top five tips for showing your Mum you care this Mothers Day. 1. The best breakfasts are simple, and this is key when making up a tray of special treats. Eyck suggests toast and pastries for a Mothers Day breakfast as they are delicious yet easy to eat in bed. He says: "Any elaborate cooked breakfasts can be difficult to eat in bed, making what should be an enjoyable breakfast seem complicated. For a truly special breakfast, try simple pastries - perhaps a warm plate of fresh croissants, or your Mum's favourite bread as toast." 2. No breakfast would be complete without a nice motherly cup of tea. Eyck suggests making your tea the old fashioned way - in a pot. Since joining The Lowry Hotel in 2005 Eyck has raised the standard of dining options throughout the Lowry Hotel, bringing critical acclaim from both visitors and reviewers alike. Helping to raise the profile of dining in Manchester on a national and local level Eyck and his brigade have won numerous awards including Restaurant of the Year at the Manchester Food and Drink Festival and National Chef of the Year.
