Evan Jones, Head of Talent and Leadership at Selex UK, decided to look beyond the obvious choices when it comes to business schools - focusing instead on the structure and purpose of leadership courses and what Selex could expect to gain from them beyond mere information.
One of the company's non-executive directors is a Fellow at the Centre for Leadership Studies
(CLS), so Evan Jones
got in touch.
"Of all the business schools we contacted, Exeter offered the most tailor-made and responsive option," he
"They clearly understood what we were looking for and how to deliver it, so our choice was easy."
A Selex-specific programme
As part of ongoing investment in its senior leaders, Selex
worked closely with the CLS
to develop the 'Sensing the Future' programme for senior managers in the UK.
helped tailor it to our unique requirements, as well as those of the sectors and markets we operate in," recalls Evan Jones
also selected course leaders carefully on the basis of relevant skills, experience and management insights.
The programme really helped Selex managers understand their personal capabilities, and develop and engage other Selex leadership talent.
It also offered wider perspectives on the defence industry.
"One of the main benefits has been the significant improvement in how we think about and discuss our current and future strategies," explains Evan
"They really drew on their extensive network for us," says Evan
, this helped overcome some of the wariness inherent in defence communications companies approaching each other.
