Euan Harvey
Euan Harvey is a Professor in Marine Science at the University of Western Australia. He is the coordinator of the Marine Science and is the contact point for levels 1-5 at UWA. He is also a member of the Oceans Institute research leadership team (http://www.oceans.uwa.edu.au/). He has an undergraduate degree in Parks and Recreation Management from Lincoln University in New Zealand and a Post Graduate Diploma and PhD in Marine Science from Otago University in New Zealand. Key research His research includes investigating the biogeography of demersal fishes and looking at fine scale fish and fish habitat relationships to understand what effect physical processes such has habitat complexity and type have on the structure of marine fish assemblages. He is also interested in fish behavior. He has an interest in fisheries and the effects of anthropogenic activities like fishing and the construction of marine infrastructure has on demersal and pelagic fishes. Consequently, he has a number of collaborations with the Department of Fisheries in Western Australia, The Department of Environment and Conservation WA, Parks NSW, CSIRO Marine, The Australian Institute of Marine Science, The National Marine Fisheries Service within NOAA and other international Marine Research Institutes. Euan has an interest in developing robust fishery independent sampling techniques. During his PhD he developed, tested and proved the advantages of using underwater stereo-video technology for sampling the relative abundance and lengths of fish remotely. During his employment at UWA he has further developed this technology which has now been has been incorporated in Diver Operated Videos systems (Stereo DOVs), Baited Remote Underwater Stereo-Video systems (Stereo BRUVs) and into towed stereo-video systems. These systems are commonly being adopted by other agencies. 59) Harvey, E.S., Dorman, S.R., Fitzpatrick, C, Newman, S. J. and D. L.
