Reverend Ervin Sims, the executive director of Mt. Carmel Redevelopment Corporation. He holds a Bache Rev.Ervin Sims Jr. lor of Science degree in Engineering from Kansas University in Lawrence, Kansas. His professional achievements include recently retiring after 29 years of service as the Assistant Manager of the Board of Public Utilities - Water Operations; Former National Director of American Water Works Association (AWWA); Trustee for the Kansas section of the AWWA (Vice Chair); Member, Engineering Society; Member, National Society of Professional Engineers; and Founder/President of Economic Community Development Corporation. He is also the founder and immediate past president of MCRC. He serves on the board of directors for Wyandotte County Chamber of Commerce and is a past board member of the United Way of Wyandotte County. Rev. Sims participates in numerous other civic and professional organizations.
Reverend Sims is pastor of Mt. Carmel Church of God in Christ. Mt. Carmel Church is one of the most vibrant and progressive churches in Kansas City metropolitan area.
His awards and community recognition include "Black Achievers in Business" Award, 1983, by SCLC; "20 Good Men" Award, 1990; "100 Most Influential" Nominee, 1993; the Distinguished Public Service Award, 1997, by American Water Works Association; and George Warren Fuller Award, 1998. He also received the Wyandotte County Citizenship Award presented by the United Government of Kansas City/Wyandotte County in 1998.
Reverend Sims is a visionary. He believes that nothing is impossible. He leads Mt. Carmel Redevelopment Corporation in executing its multi-million Dollar expansion program designed to revitalize its existent community, expand the diverse components of the organization and to facilitate the creation of safe, healthy neighborhoods.

Clausie Smith, former mayor of Bonner Springs, will receive the Wyandotte Countian of the Year Award and Bishop Ervin Sims Jr., former water department manager and former assistant general manager of the Board of Public Utilities, will receive the Distinguished Alumni of the Year Award.

Sims is a native of Wyandotte County, attending Kansas City, Kan., Public Schools as well as KCKCC. He has a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering from the University of Kansas and is the founder of the Mt. Carmel Redevelopment Corporation Inc. to improve the quality of life for Wyandotte County residents.
Since 1994, the MCRC has constructed 16 new homes for low to moderate-income families; completed a 61-unit senior citizen apartment complex and in partnership with the Boys and Girls Club, completed construction on the Breidenthal Community Center. He has also been pastor at Mount Carmel Church of God in Christ since 1980.
Sims received the KCKCC Mid-American Education Award in 2005 and was recently honored with the street renamed from 12th Street and Garfield Ave. north to Jersey City Park to Ervin Sims Jr. Drive.

Under the pastoral leadership of Bishop Ervin Sims, Jr., Ocie B grew spiritually and was an active member of the Mt. Carmel Men's Coalition and the Mt. Carmel Men of Distinction. He was often recognized and appreciated for his Military Service as a "Buffalo Soldier". Ocie B was employed and retired from the meat cutting department at Swift & Company, and worked several years as a maintenance mechanic at the VFW. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge with others, good conversations, gardening, playing dominos, pitching horseshoes and watching professional sports.
