Dr. Ernie H. Frey, Senior Pastor
Ernest H. Frey is senior pastor of the 3,000-member Central Church in Collierville, Tennessee. He was born in Houston, Texas, and attended Wheaton College (1982-1987) where he played Division III football and served two years as the team captain. Dr. Ernie Frey After completing his Master's Degree at Dallas Theological Seminary (1989-1994), Ernie brought his family to Memphis in order to pursue a doctorate in missions at Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary. He has recently completed his doctoral degree. While a doctoral student at Mid-America, Pastor Frey taught Bible at Briarcrest Christian School. Ernie and his wife Anne, an accomplished harpist, met on a blind date. They married in 1993 and are the parents of three daughters: Morgan (9), who was born in Kenya, Meredith (5), a Millennium baby who was born in Pennsylvania, and Madison (1), who was born in Memphis. The Freys served in missions on the continent of Africa with Africa Inland Mission from 1995 through 1997. Ernie grew up in a mission-minded family. His great-grandfather was a missionary in what is now Zimbabwe and his maternal grandfather was a pastor. Other places where Pastor Frey served on the mission field are Russia, India, Guatemala, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Ethiopia, Tanzania, and Uganda. Pastor Frey enjoys his wife and family, reading, travel, different cultures, new experiences, and athletic competition. He has a passion for life and learning and loves communication. The freshness of Ernie's preaching and teaching has revitalized the body of Christ at this church. Ernie accepted Jesus as his Savior in Sunday school when he was five years old and, by the age of ten, the principles of Scripture that he'd grown up with began to have a deeper meaning in his life. Also at age ten, Ernie was able to lead his brother to the Lord. Pastor Frey says, "I really want to see people move from a Sunday-centered spirituality to Christianity that's 24/7.
