Erin Shaffer, an attorney with the New Haven Legal Assistance Association, said she was told that the housing authority's Board of Commissioners will discuss at its meeting today whether the Riverside Tenants Association is the official voice of residents at the Riverside Apartments complex on Olson Drive. The board meets at 6 p.m. today at its Main Street office.Shaffer said she heard from Andrew Daniels of Mapplan Associates, a consultant recently hired by the authority, that the association would not be recognized until it follows U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development regulations for housing groups.
That includes holding elections of officers every three years and having bylaws.
Shaffer said the group was formed properly, but added, "at this point, we have some work to do.

Andy went to Superior Court on her behalf, along with Erin Schaffer, a lawyer for the New Haven Legal Assistance Association.
...
Schaffer worked out a legal agreement that Wells would leave the apartment by the end of June, and at least pay her current rent.
...
Schaffer said the eviction notice was expected to be issued Thursday, but she won't be evicted today. She said usually a tenant has about two weeks after that before being forced out because the city is obligated to arrange storage space in a warehouse.
"There's not a whole lot I can do at this point," Schaffer said."She just can't afford the $1,000.I don't think anyone wants to see her end up on the street."
Schaffer estimated Wells owes about $5,000 in back rent.
"I would hope there would be some sympathy," Schaffer said of the landlord, "but there's no bad person here.
