Erin Shaffer, Staff Attorney
Erin has been with LAA since 2004. She currently works in the education unit with students experiencing educational difficulties due to social, emotional and/or academic concerns. She also represents students at risk of expulsion due to disciplinary action, and students in need of special education and supports. Prior to working at LAA, she worked as a housing attorney at Connecticut Legal Services in the New London office and at the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles in the benefits unit. Erin attended Boston College for her undergraduate degree and got her J.D. at Fordham University School of Law. She's admitted to practice in Connecticut and California and is a member of the New Haven County Bar Association. In her free time, Erin enjoys rollerblading and hiking.

Andy went to Superior Court on her behalf, along with Erin Schaffer, a lawyer for the New Haven Legal Assistance Association. Schaffer worked out a legal agreement that Wells would leave the apartment by the end of June, and at least pay her current rent.Schaffer said the eviction notice was expected to be issued Thursday, but she won't be evicted today.She said usually a tenant has about two weeks after that before being forced out because the city is obligated to arrange storage space in a warehouse."There's not a whole lot I can do at this point," Schaffer said."She just can't afford the $1,000.I don't think anyone wants to see her end up on the street."Schaffer estimated Wells owes about $5,000 in back rent."I would hope there would be some sympathy," Schaffer said of the landlord, "but there's no bad person here.
