Erik Aadahl is a sound designer and sound-effects editor who has worked on an impressive string of audio-intensive Hollywood action blockbusters, including Transformers 1 and 2, Superman Returns, Daredevil, X2, Valkyrie and Fantastic Four, as well as the recent DreamWorks releases Kung Fu Panda 1 and 2, Monsters vs Aliens, Shrek Forever After and Megamind. We spoke to Aadahl about his latest project, doing sound design for Transformers: Dark of the Moon. CineSoundPro: I imagine designing for The Tree of Life is a lot different from Transformers 3. Sound designer Erik Aadahl in front of the 320-channel Harrison MPC2 digital mixing console at the Kim Novak Theater at Sony Pictures Studio Post Production in Culver City, Calif. Erik Aadahl: Absolutely! Aadahl: I use a Sound Devices 722 [disk-based, 2-track recorder] and a lot of microphones, from hydrophones to contact mics, but my workhorse is a Neumann RSM 191 stereo shotgun.
