Erica Stewart has over 25 years experience in the EH&S field, the last twenty at Kaiser Permanente, the largest not-for-profit HMO in the U.S. In her current position at Kaiser Permanente, Erica is responsible for developing, organizing, and managing nationwide initiatives in collaboration with other departments, including procurement teams, to ensure that Kaiser Permanente's building designs, medical devices and products incorporate measures that eliminate or control chemical exposures and increase indoor environmental quality. Before joining Kaiser Permanente, Erica worked for industrial hygiene consultants assessing occupational exposure to various chemical and physical hazards. Erica has BS in Biochemistry from San Francisco State University. She is an AIHA® Fellow, has a certificate from the Center for Healthcare Environmental Management, and is a Past Chair of the AIHA® Stewardship and Sustainability Committee, the 2007 Chair of AIHA's Healthcare Working Group and is the current Secretary of AIHA's Green Building Working Group.

Erica has a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from San Francisco State University and is a Certified Industrial Hygienist in the comprehensive practice of industrial hygiene as well as a certified Healthcare Environmental Manager. She has published a chapter on sterilization technology in The Essentials of Modern Hospital Management 3rd edition (2009); contributed as an author to the AIHA's popular text, Recognition, Evaluation, and Control of Indoor Mold (2008); contributed as an author to AIHA's Guidance for Conducting Control Banding Analyses (2007); and published the articles, "Detoxification of Disinfection and Sterilization," in Healthcare Design Magazine (2008) and "Evaluation of Two Cold-Liquid Chemical Disinfectants as a Substitute for 2.4-percent Glutaraldehyde Solutions," in the Journal of Healthcare Safety, Compliance & Infection Control (1999).
