Eric Saloom, Sales Manager at Kenny Ross Toyota, has been raising the bar and setting the tone for all businesses he's worked at since graduating college.
Eric's business and selling skills are one to be admired and learned from. Aside from his career path, Eric has stories that are sure to turn heads. His co-workers joke that his life "stories" could take all day/night to tell. This is a compliment, as Eric's stories are nothing short of impressive. Eric graduated from college with a business degree in accounting and minor in finance. Soon after graduating, Eric bumped into an old friend. He said the last time he saw him he "looked like he'd been living under a bridge. This time, he was in a suit and tie. He expressed to Eric he was working as a manager in sales. This is when Eric went on to work for Dreamwater Beds. In the first month Eric was with the company, he outsold the entire sales team. He did the same thing the second month. And the third. Eric was moved to manager after 3 months and then after, was moved to a struggling store that Eric took from bad to great. Since his first job in sales, Eric took off from there and has been successful in every sales position he's been in since. Since graduating, Eric took over a couple projects in his spare time. He acquired a house that a sorority was living in just outside Pittsburgh. He also bought a salon that his wife (girlfriend at the time) was working at. After those projects were well underway, Eric drove to Nashville where two of his brothers were working in the car business. While at his brothers, they said, "Put on a suit and tie, you're coming to work." At that time, the dealership the two brothers were working at was Bill Hurd Chevrolet. The GM of that store said, "I can't hire a third brother" so they sent Eric to Rivergate Toyota where Eric figured he'd "give it a shot. Anyone reading this can probably guess what happened from there. Eric was the top salesman for the first month, second and third. At that point, Eric couldn't turn down the money and decided to stay in the car business. From that point on to the time he came to Kenny Ross, he worked at dealerships in between and topped the charts at each one. He even landed positions such as Special Finance Director. He had no experience as a finance director but produced numbers that were unheard of. Aside from the car business, Eric had an interest in drag boat racing. "It started with just fishing in local tournaments then I saw fast bass boats," Eric said. "I went and bought one and it was just an addiction from there." Eric raced with some of the fastest boats in the world. He explained that this was a very dangerous sport. Eric even saw accidents that took lives. "I love life. I'll cheat death but I'm not going to go willingly. I took all safety precautions while racing," Eric said. Eric's stories about his racing days, buying and selling boats, and traveling are ones to take the time and listen to. An unbelievable story is that of a 63 Corvette. When Eric was in kindergarten, he would watch someone cleaning their 63 Corvette. One day he said to himself, "I'm born in 1963, that's the coolest car I've ever seen in my life and one day I'm going to own one of those." One day at an old classic car auction in Nashville, Eric saw a 63 Corvette pull in and it was as loud as can be. "I look at it and I look at my buddy and thought that was the loudest, most obnoxious Corvette I'd ever seen in my life and that it is me to a T," Eric said. Eric went to buy the Corvette and the seller wouldn't budge. Eric left the auction without the Corvette. He then went to another auction and saw the same Corvette. After bidding twice, Eric wasn't convinced that this car couldn't be his. After two and a half months of trying to put a deal together, Eric finally was able to convince the 63 Corvette owner. Eric excitingly jumped in the Corvette and drove it home. He gets home to see his wife in the driveway. Eric gets out and says to his wife, "We finally got our baby."
