Eric is a transplant to Virginia from Southern Illinois where he graduated from Pinckneyville Community High School in 1998. There he was an All-Conference catcher for 3 years as a varsity player for the Panthers. Eric's junior and senior summers were spent playing American Legion baseball for DuQuion, Il where he posted a career batting average of .605 finishing his summer before college hitting .720 for the season.
Eric played collegiate baseball at Greenville College in central Illinois from 1999 to 2002. His freshman year he posted a .419 batting avg. achieving First team All-Conference, First team All-American, SLIAC Conference Rookie of the Year, and Rawlings Freshman of the Year honors. His sophomore and junior year also brought forth All-Conference and All-American Honors. While hoping for good things from his senior year, a collision at home plate unfortunately sidelined early in the season with a Grade 2 ankle sprain. After being undrafted in 2002, Eric took the Independent League professional baseball route. Teams included the River City Rascals, the Gateway Grizzlies, the Richmond Roosters, the Candem Riversharks, the Atlantic City Surf, and the Northshore Spirits. After many pit stops around the country from team to team, Eric finally found a place to play ball consistantly and call home.
