Eric V. Orange has had a diverse and distinguished 20+ year career within the wine industry.
After an enlistment in the Submarine Service of the United States Navy, Eric joined an ex-shipmate who was attending the Culinary Institute of America (CIA) in Hyde Park, New York. He took a job at Millbrook Vineyards outside of Poughkeepsie and spent almost five years learning to grow grapes and make wine as the Vineyard Supervisor.
Two other wine related positions that he held in New York were Retail/Wholesale Wine Sales at Cascade Mountain Vineyards and Customer Service Manager for the short lived Wine Society of America, a company attempting to sell wine across the country, legally, through the three-tier system.
Eric moved back to his hometown to attend college and took a part time job at a 105 yr old private club which quickly became a full time position as the Bar Manager/Wine Steward. That job led to a position as a Wine Representative for a local Wholesaler, which in turn led to a position as District Manager for Paterno Imports in Colorado.
During five and a half years with Paterno, Eric attained certification from the Court of Master Sommeliers (1st phase) and a Master of Wine Education certification from the International Wine Guild. He is a member of the Society of Wine Educators. He also served on the board of the American Institute of Wine and Food (AIWF), Denver Chapter.
Leaving Paterno to pursue his desire of combining years of wine experience with the burgeoning Internet, Eric attended several months of computer courses and then developed a website for a multi-state retail liquor chain.
After Eric's wife accepted a promotion and a transfer to Houston, Eric was recruited as Area Manager for WineShopper.com, another company attempting to sell wine across the country through the three-tier system.
Finally, he decided to develop his idea for LocalWineEvents.com

Red Wine Articles, International Food and Wine Events Website Increases Reach With Wine Enthusiasts - Westcoastredwine.com
www.westcoastredwine.com, 19 July 2004 [cached]
Eric Orange, Founder of Local Wine Events.com, launched the site in July 2000 after identifying a need for one central location where consumers and wine retailers could go to learn about wine events and information in their area.
...
Before I created this site, the best way to learn about wine events was by signing up for countless wine newsletters from wine stores and restaurants -- which created a lot of extra email, Orange said. Local Wine Events.com eliminates the need to seek information from several different sources and also allows users to easily access information not only in their city of residence, but also cities around the globe.
Along with allowing users to advertise their upcoming food and wine events free of charge, the site also provides an online ticketing service for organizations.
Its a great publicity tool for those involved in the wine industry and an extensive and informative site for others who are looking to get more involved in wine-related events, Orange said.
Orange said the sites event postings are up by 40 percent as compared to last years postings and continues to see a steady increase in events. I think more people are starting to get interested in wine and are looking for ways to enhance their quality of life by getting involved with something they love. Ive seen an influx of wine training schools spring up all over the country, and from what Ive observed on the site, more people looking for ways to learn more about wine, Orange said.
Local Wine Events.com was most recently featured in the New York Times and also U.S. News and World Report and the Wall Street Journal.
Orange holds a certification from the Court of Master Sommeliers and a Master of Wine Education certification from the International Wine Guild. He is a member of the Society of Wine Educators and previously served on the board of the American Institute of Wine and Food, Denver Chapter.
