Sixteen months ago, it was a dream for Eric Kranson
and Mark DiPippa.
and DiPippa are the organizers of the inaugural Wilkes-Barre Duathlon, which begins at 8:30 a.m. Sunday on Public Square.
..."Mark (DiPippa) and I met a year ago in January and we thought a duathlon was something we could handle," said Kranson, physical education director at the Jewish Community Center of Wyoming Valley.
In addition to providing an athletic event, DiPippa and Kranson
were hoping to form a partnership between the Wilkes-Barre Family YMCA, the Wyoming Valley Catholic Youth Center
and the JCC.
first approached me about the event, he
asked me if I thought we could all work together as a group. That's exactly what's happened.
"I think the 100-plus participants are going to enjoy a top-notch race with lots of excitement."
The duathlon is also a history-making event, said Kranson
"(The JCC, YMCA and CYC) have been neighbors for 100 years, and something like this has never been done before," he
"One of our goals was to attract people who use our fitness facilities and encourage them to take fitness to another level," said Kranson
