Eric Hinkes currently serves as the Internet Education Foundation (IEF) Legal Policy Fellow. Eric brings over 5 years of Intellectual Property and High Technology Law practice experience. Eric is a graduate of the Intellectual Property LL.M. program at The George Washington University Law School and completed his J.D. at Santa Clara University School of Law, receiving a High Technology Law Certificate. He is a registered patent attorney and also serves as an Assistant Editor to the Journal of the Patent and Trademark Office Society, having previously served as a Staff Editor of the Computer and High Technology Law Journal at Santa Clara University School of Law. Eric brings over 5 years of Intellectual Property and High Technology Law practice experience. Eric Hinkes is a member of Baker Hostetler's Intellectual Property group.As a registered patent attorney, he focuses his practice on patent law, including patent litigation, prosecution, client counseling and validity and infringement analyses.
Prior to law school, Mr. Hinkes worked as an intellectual property coordinator, consultant and webmaster for multiple internet companies.While in law school, Mr. Hinkes served as a staff editor of the Santa Clara Computer and High Technology Law Journal and authored, "Up For Grabs: Multilingual Domain Names and the Internationalization of the Internet."Mr. Hinkes received his LL.M. in intellectual property law, focusing on patent strategies, appellate practice and intellectual property legislation.He also received a prize in writing for his paper, "Stuffing the Genie Back in the Lamp: Fair Use Activities vs.Access Controls in the Digital Era," a version of which was published in 2007 in the Santa Clara Computer and High Technology Law Journal.
Prior to joining Baker Hostetler, Mr. Hinkes was an IP legal fellow for the House Judiciary Committee, Subcommittee on Courts, the Internet, and Intellectual Property, where he researched, analyzed, and reported in subcommittee intellectual property matters.He also assisted in drafting legislation, preparing hearing materials, and reviewing witness testimony on a multitude of issues specifically for the ranking member of the subcommittee.
