By: Zamboanga.com Editorial - March 29, 2007
This past January 18, 2007, we asked the important political question: What have you done, Congressman Erbie Fabian?
The question begged to be asked for the sake of all the Zamboangueño constituency, for accountability purposes for the upcoming May 2007 election.
We had no clue as to what the singular Congressional Representative of Zamboanga
had been doing these past few years on behalf of our mistreated city.
There were a few recent publicity actions in his giving away some computers to the needy, but we wanted to know what exactly Congressman Fabian has done politically for the benefit of over 600,000 abused citizens of Zamboanga in Manila-centric politics!
Rep. Fabian seeks God's guidance for a continued service to the people.
Congressman Erbie A. Fabian is set to file his certificate of candidacy today with a declaration that he has done his level best in serving the sovereign people of Zamboanga City during his first term in the House of Representatives.
is confident that the people have seen and felt the numerous projects and activities which he
has brought forth in the last three years adopting what he
called as practical and decent politics.
"I have done my level best in putting forward the interest of the people over that of the party.
I intend to continue serving the people and I will pray hard to the Lord to make me a vehicle to serve His
interest for the betterment of my constituents," Fabian
said in a short message.
The pious congressman reiterated that he
has put God in the center of his
activities as public servant and "I will continue doing so if the Lord will grant be a second term."
first term, Fabian drew up a broad spectrum of programs and projects which he
accomplished after three years in office.
The package included infrastructure projects like farm-to-market roads, barangay multi-purpose covered courts, bridges and overpass road bridges.
For the education sector, the congressman has put in varied projects like school buildings, gymnasiums, school fences, school stages, scores of computers, speech laboratories, scholarship grants to indigent but deserving students.
has extended significant assistance to the marginalized sectors including farmers, fisher folks, the unemployed, out-of-school youths.
The farmers received seeds, fertilizers and farm implement; the fisher folks got seaweeds trimmings and fishing gears.
Hundreds of unemployed folks including housewives were trained in livelihood skills which would make them capable of augmenting the family income.
Health and other barangay workers, tanods, media men were given health insurance by the congressman.
Needless to mention, Fabian
has embarked on the promotion of various sports by staging tournaments and competitions, notably the "Golpe Golpe na Barangay", the two cycling races, the numerous basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball and golf tournaments and the holding of two boxing events featuring professional bouts.
have a Congressional Office located in his
hometown of Zamboanga City, where Zamboangueños can meet with him to discuss their issues or proposed solutions to issues?
to elaborate further to the people what he
has done, and is doing, for the benefit of his
Zamboanga City constituency.
failed to elaborate on what he
has done, legislatively, we did some digging and found the information we were looking for:
We would like for Congressman Erbie Fabian to give the Zamboangueños a detailed update on what he said to his fellow Representatives in Congress at the time of his introduction of the aforementioned House Bills and their current status.
It would be a good idea for his
office to give the people a regular, say quarterly, update on the happenings of his
office in Congress.
