NORTH OGDEN - Emma Lee Brooks, 70, was called to heaven by the Lord on December 7, 2001, from complications relating to an extended illness.
She was born August 3, 1931 in Lexington, Missouri to Benjamin H. Johnson and Emma L. Estes Johnson.
She was reared and educated in Lexington, Missouri, graduating from Douglas High School.After high school, she married her high school sweetheart, Ralph William Brooks on June 28, 1949.Together they moved to Ogden, Utah, in 1950, where she began raising their six children.
With passionate beliefs in children"s education, in the 1960"s she was employed with Ogden City School Board.Later employed with the Defense Depot Ogden, receiving many awards of recognition.On August 31, 1993, she retired after 27 years of honorable service.
Many years she sang with the Young Adult Church Choir.Emma was an active member with Second Baptist Church, serving in many church callings.
She held the position of Worthy Matron with the Eastern Stars of the Queen of the West Chapter #17, also an active member of the Doves Social and Civil Club.She was an active member of the NAACP, serving on the Executive Committee Board.
Her joy came from precious time with her family, singing inspirational songs and crocheting.
She is survived by her husband, Ralph W. Brooks Sr., Ogden, Utah; mother, Emma L. Johnson, age 97, Albuquerque, New Mexico; three daughters, Sharon Brooks Pitts (Jackie), Andrea Brooks (Rodney Carter), Valerie Brooks Dixon (Rory); three sons, Ralph Brooks Jr. (Wanda), Keith Brooks, Kevin Brooks (Beverly).
