The very popular director of Author's Ink, ELLIOT ENGEL will make his sixth appearance for the Women's Institute. Lecturer, author, and tour guide, Dr. Engel will present a fascinating look at the history of wine and the cultures who have drunk wine through the centuries. With 260 lectures a year covering over 50 literary topics, Dr. Engel speaks to a wide variety of interests and subjects. The author of seven books, Dr. Engel has taught at North Carolina State University, the University of North Carolina, and Duke University.

These audio programs, which can be reserved at any Gaston-Lincoln Regional Library location or from your home computer at, are presented by noted literary speaker Dr. Elliot Engel, founder of Authors Ink, a literary club of thousands of members world-wide who are professed "lovers of literature."
Originally from Indianapolis, Engel earned his Master of arts and doctor of philosophy degrees as a Woodrow Wilson Fellow at the University of California at Los Angeles, where he won the university's Outstanding Teacher Award.He now resides in Raleigh, North Carolina, where he has taught courses at North Carolina State University, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and Duke University.
In addition for his scholarship and teaching, he has received North Carolina's Adult Education Award, North Carolina State's Distinguished Outreach Professorship, and the Victorian Society Award of Merit.
Presenting more than 200 lecture events covering more than 50 literary topics each year, Dr. Engel appears before a wide variety of audiences ranging from a thousand people at a Town Hall to a classroom of ten eager elementary students.Past audiences have included alumni groups, international conferences, educators associations, and - of course- library organizations.
As part of his prolific career, Dr. Engel has published seven literature-related books in England and in the United States.The most recent title, "A Dab of Dickens & A Touch of Twain," was released by Simon & Schuster in 2002 and is now in its second printing.
Professor Engel has also written three plays which have been produced in various venues, and PBS Television stations around the country have aired Professor Engel's mini-lecture series on his favorite author and literary hero, Charles Dickens.
In addition to his busy lecture schedule, during the past 26 years Engel has led thousands of travel enthusiasts to more than 20 countries for learning vacations focused on literary personages.
