Ellen K. Renaud joined Swick & Shapiro, P.C. in September 2002 and was promoted to partner in December 2011. Ms. Renaud represents employees in both public and private sector discrimination claims.
has litigated cases under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Equal Pay Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, and the D.C. Human Rights Act.
has tried and won several cases in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, and the Superior Court of the District of Columbia, and has successfully argued before the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit and the Fourth Circuit.
Ms. Renaud earned her B.S. from Cornell University in 1993 and her J.D., magna cum laude from the American University's Washington College of Law in 2001, where she served on the American University Law Review.
During law school, Ms. Renaud received an award for her work in constitutional law, and she received scholarships for her academic achievements and for her service in the law school's "Women and the Law" clinical program.
After law school, Ms. Renaud served as law clerk to the Honorable Rosemarie Annunziata of the Court of Appeals of Virginia.
