Our deepest sympathies go_out to Ellen Levy and their children..Dr. Levy joined AHP in 1992 as President , Wyeth-Ayerst Research and had played a leading role in the development of Wyeth-Ayerst global pharmaceutical research and development efforts.Dr. Levy had a long and distinguished career in research and research management in government , academia and industry.Prior_to joining AHP , he served as President of The Sandoz Research_Institute from 1988 to 1992.He was Vice_President for Health Sciences and Professor of Medicine at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons ( 1983-1987 ) and Vice_President and Dean of the Tufts_University of Medicine ( 1981-1983 ) .Dr. Levy also served at the National Institutes of Health ( NIH ) , the last six years as Director of the National Heart , Lung and Blood Institute.His 18-year tenure at NIH included pathfinding work in the areas of cholesterol , lipids , lipoproteins , atherosclerosis and heart disease.Dr. Levy was a graduate of Cornell University and Yale University School of Medicine , cum laude.He was a member of numerous honorary and professional societies including Phi Beta Kappa , Alpha Omega Alpha and the American College of Cardiology.He was also a member of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences , serving on their Roundtable for Environmental Health Sciences , Research and Medicine and Roundtable on Research and Development of Drugs , Biologics , and Medical Devices.He also served as chairman of the PhRMA Science and Regulatory Section Executive Committee.Dr. Levy was the author or co-author of over 300 scientific publications.American_Home_Products is one of the world's largest research-based pharmaceutical and health care products companies.It is a leader in the discovery , development , manufacturing and marketing of prescription drugs and over-the-counter medications.It is also a leader in vaccines , biotechnology and animal health care.
