The move will give the organization a cash cushion while allowing it to focus on its programs, said Elizabeth Reiss, the center's CEO. The purchaser, Troy-based Sequence Development, will restore two vacant upper floors and plans to create 26 new apartments, as well as a rooftop deck. The sale price wasn't disclosed. The deal is expected to close by the end of next year. The arts center had met with at least a dozen developers, Reiss said, before selecting Sequence. "This is a great opportunity for us to put our money into our programming," Reiss said. She envisions more mobile programs that reach people who may not be able to get to the downtown location, although it does bring tens of thousands a people a year to Troy. On Sunday, during the city's annual Victorian Stroll, it had 2,000 visitors, Reiss said. Reiss, who joined the arts center as CEO 10 weeks ago after serving as director of development at the Albany Institute of History and Art, said it will be good to see the unused space put to use. "Buildings have stories," Reiss added, "and this one's not done yet."
