CHICAGO - Vitalist Theatre in Chicago is presenting Bertolt Brecht's "Mother Courage and Her Children," adapted by David Hare and directed by Elizabeth Carlin-Metz.
The theater company, founded by Carlin-Metz, associate professor of theater at Knox College, opened "Mother Courage" Monday.

Metz's books include an award-winning poetry collection "Unbidden Angel," written following the 1993 death of his wife, Elizabeth Jahnke Metz.
Metz was nominated for the program in Kosovo by Wendy Saul, a 1968 Knox graduate who teaches at the University of Missouri.
Saul was editor of Knox's literary magazine, Catch, during 1967-68, the first year that Metz taught at Knox.
"She will have been teaching in Kosovo for 10 days prior to my arrival, and we'll team-teach for a short time," Metz said.
Metz is director of the Creative Writing Program at Knox and holds the Philip Sydney Post Professorship in English.

Elizabeth Carlin Metz the founding Artistic Director of Chicago's acclaimed VITALIST THEATRE, where she received After Dark Awards for her direction of MOTHER COURAGE AND HER CHILDREN and for technical achievement for A PASSAGE TO INDIA.
As a voice director Liz has worked for Seattle Repertory Theatre, Tacoma Actor's Guild, and Steppenwolf (Chicago and Off-Broadway) and four years as a Resident Voice Director at Williamstown Theatre Festival. She has served on the Illinois Arts Council, presented on acting and directing at the Association for Theatre in Higher education, and served on the faculties of the Professional Actor Training Programs at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, the University of Washington, and the University of California at Davis where she also taught in and administered the graduate directing program. She is Professor of Theatre at Knox College and holds an MFA from Temple University.
