For a time, McCollum Sr. said he worked with students at Fenger to try to keep them in school and out of conflicts, and he has worked with a number of young men on the Far South Side to try to get them employed or in school outside the city, where they will be safer.
Saturday's shooting had McCollum Sr. upset that all his
son's work to earn money for college while honing his
basketball skills might be for nothing.
