Elizabeth Aspenlieder triumphs at Boston awards ceremony
5.14.09 Elizabeth Aspenlieder (right), with WBZ-TV arts reporter Joyce Kulhawik, accepting her Elliot Norton award for Outstanding Solo Performance It was no surprise to many of us who have known and loved Elizabeth "Lizzy" Aspenlieder for many years as a stalwart performer at Shakespeare & Company that Lizzie gained the recognition of New England's top theater critics earlier this week for her solo performance in Bad Dates. Shakespeare & Company actress Elizabeth Aspenlieder won the Elliot Norton Award for Outstanding Solo Performance for her performance in Theresa Rebeck's Bad Dates at Shakespeare & Company and Merrimack Repertory Company this winter, at a ceremony held earlier this week Harvard University's Sanders Theatre. Wall Street Journal theater critic Terry Teachout wrote of Bad Dates that Aspenlieder pulled off an "improbable act of theatrical alchemy" and her "zany acting is part of what makes Shakespeare & Company the best theater troupe in the Berkshires. Aspenlieder says. "To be recognized amongst such a distinguished and 'out of the ball park' talented group of artists and fellow nominees is not only a great honor, but deeply humbling," said Aspenlieder. Aspenlieder, who is entering her fifteen season at S&Co., also serves as Interim Communications Director and Director of Publicity & Playbill Advertising. Lizzy is one of the best actresses of our time and I'm so glad she was recognized with the award.

Elizabeth Aspenlieder of Shakespeare and Company, however, rose to the challenge and held our interest in a character who seemed real, alive, and vulnerable.
