Eileen Torres Executive Director BronxWorks Eileen Torres is the Executive Director of BronxWorks. She has been the BronxWorks chief executive officer since May 2014. Eileen started at BronxWorks as Assistant to the Executive Director in 1995, soon becoming Administrative Counsel and then General Counsel in 2003. Her responsibilities as General Counsel included overseeing legal, human resources, training, information technology, and other aspects of administration. Upon the retirement of her predecessor in June 2013, she was named as the Interim Executive Director. While she continued to serve as IED, the Board appointed her to the newly-created position of Chief Operating Officer. During Eileen's interim leadership, BronxWorks received a 2013 New York Nonprofit Excellence Award, was selected as a merit finalist in the nationwide Community Partnership Award of Mutual of America, and was named a finalist in the Brooke W. Mahoney Award for Outstanding Board Leadership, a greater New York metropolitan area award organized by VCG Governance Matters. BronxWorks was also awarded contracts to provide Affordable Care Act Navigator services and operate the Classic Community Center, a 20,000 square foot space that serves three NYCHA complexes in the Mott Haven section of the Bronx. Eileen earned a B.S. from Pace University, a J.D. from the Northeastern University School of Law, and is a member of the New York State Bar Association. She is a board member of the Nonprofit Coordinating Committee of New York and Human Services Council, and serves on the Advisory Committee of the Center for Bronx Non-Profits. She is a New York native, having spent her formative years in northern Manhattan and the north central Bronx.

Eileen Torres, Executive Director, BronxWorks Appointed Executive Director of BronxWorks in 2014, Ms. Torres has a long professional and personal commitment to serving the Bronx community. She joined BronxWorks in 1995, when it was known as Citizens Advice Bureau, and was named General Counsel in 2003, Interim Executive Director in 2013 and Chief Operating Officer in 2014. Over the past 20 years, she has helped the organization grow from 120 to 600 employees and 10 to 30 sites, which today feed, shelter, teach, and support more than 35,000 people in the South Bronx each year. Under Ms. Torres' leadership, BronxWorks has received a contract to provide Affordable Care Act Navigator services, a contract to operate the Classic Community Center serving three NYCHA complexes in the Mott section of the Bronx, and multiple awards for exemplary management and governance. BronxWorks has been a Lawyers Alliance client since 1996, benefitting from quality pro bono legal help to advance its programs and operations. Former BronxWorks Executive Director Carolyn McLaughlin will present the 2015 Business Law & Leadership Award to Ms. Torres. The support of Lawyers Alliance provided by Eileen, Rohan, and Steven and their friends and colleagues is a strong endorsement of the important services provided by Lawyers Alliance and its staff."

Eileen Torres
Eileen Torres has been the Executive Director of BronxWorks since May 2014. As the leader of the agency, she serves as the ultimate advocate for the 40,000 residents of the Bronx that receive services from BronxWorks as well as the more than 800 employees across the organization. Eileen has been with BronxWorks since 1995, starting in administrative roles, serving as Admin Counsel and General Counsel, and stepping in as interim Executive Director/COO in 2013. Her education and background as an attorney have been invaluable in guiding BronxWorks in the highest standards of nonprofit governance and as an implementing partner for many New York City government programs. As the third Executive Director to lead the organization, Eileen built upon the legacy of her predecessor, Carolyn McLaughlin, and expanded the scope, reach and impact of services to the Bronx community. A graduate of Cardinal Spellman High School, Eileen earned a B.S. from Pace University, A J.D. from the Northeastern University School of Law, and is a member of the New York State Bar Association. She is a board member of the Nonprofit Coordinating Committee of New York, the Lawyers Alliance for New York and serves on the Advisory Committee for the Center for Bronx Non-Profits. Eileen serves on the executive committee of Bronx Partners for Healthy Communities and is also a member of the Alliance for Strong Families and Communities CEO Council. She is a Bronx native, having spent her formative years in northern Manhattan and the north central Bronx.
