David E. Kapell founded Kapell Real Estate, Inc. in 1981 after moving to Greenport, from New York City with his wife and business partner, Eileen Kapell.
grew up in New York City, where his early career was devoted to managing several highly successful Manhattan restaurants, including J.P's

, and Marvin Gardens.
...Since moving to Greenport, Mr. Kapell has held a number of public service positions.In 1979 he was appointed Community Development Supervisor for the Village of Greenport, and during his two-year tenure was responsible for the funding and administration of a multi-million-dollar urban renewal program.In 1983 Mr. Kapell was elected to the Village of Greenport Board of Trustees, and served in that capacity until 1987.From 1990 through 1991 he served as Chairman of the Greenport Planning Board.In 1994 Mr. Kapell was elected Mayor of the Village of Greenport and is now in his third term of office. Mr. Kapell, a classically trained pianist, is the son of William Kapell, the late American concert pianist, and Dr. Anna Lou Dehavenon, an urban anthropologist and a respected authority on hunger and homelessness in New York City.
