According to ALC General Manager Egan P. Willard, the most recent fire destroyed the Swanson's Dam Camp sometime in early September, an act that prompted the organization to offer a $50,000 reward to capture the arsonist(s) responsible. The New York State Police is investigating the arson, Willard said. The club also has hired AMRIC Associates, East Syracuse, as security a consultant.SIXTH CAMP TO BURNThe Swanson's fire was the sixth arson fire to destroy one of the remote, rustic ALC camps, all of which were located in the Little Moose tract of the club.He pointed out that on or about May 29, 2000, the Proctor Camp was burned to the ground. That arson was followed by the burning of Camp 9 and the Gorge Creek Camp, which was burned on or about April 15, 2003.The Proctor Camp was rebuilt, but was torched on or around June 15, 2003.According to Willard, ALC workers discovered the burned remains of the Otter Brook Camp April 28, 2005.The most recent arson, that of the Swanson's Dam Camp, took place at the Honnedaga tract of ALC, Willard said. All of the camps are located in remote parts of the 53,000-acre club. The camps can only be reached by canoe or down rough logging roads.Willard said that the Club is concerned that the arsonist could start a major forest fire in the Adirondacks.Willard said anyone with information can contact him at (315) 369-3025, via e-mail at email@example.com or by writing to POB 8, Old Forge, NY 13420.
ALC General Manager Egan Willard said arson fires completely destroyed the remote rustic camps.ALC workers discovered the result of the most recent fire April 28, at the Otter Brook Camp.It is estimated that camp was torched sometime between the middle of March and the middle of April.Willard explained the fire at Otter Brook Camp fits a pattern of fires occurring at: the Proctor Camp on or about May 29, 2000; Camp 9 June 22, 2001; and Gorge Creek Camp on or about April 15, 2003.After the Proctor Camp was completely rebuilt it was burned again June 15, 2003.REMOTE LOCATIONSWillard said these camps are located in remote parts of the 53,000-acre club.Willard hopes the $50,000 reward will develop information from people who know of the arsonist. 'Whoever did this lives next to somebody and may have hinted about his actions to acquaintances. He may have expressed anger toward the Adirondack League Club or bragged about his activity.'We would like any information that may be helpful,' he said. The New York State Police are investigating the arson and the Adirondack League Club has hired AMRIC Associates of East Syracuse as a security consultant.Anyone with information is asked to write Egan Willard at POB 8, Old Forge, NY 13420; telephone (315) 369-3025; or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
