Edward Turner: Building Bridges

AT THE LAST NEDC meeting, Bishop Edward Turner, candidate for the 48th Assembly District, shared his vision for Building Bridges in Los Angeles.
Known for his ability to reach across religious, ethnic, racial, cultural, and socio-economic divides in seeking solutions to many of the complex problems of our city, Turner was asked to speak at the meeting because he has been a champion for this cause for more than two decades. urner shared his vision for serving the diverse community of South Los Angeles. As founder of Community Day, an annual event that includes a job fair, home buying expo, literacy program, and many other services, Turner works with the private sector to provide cars, housing, and jobs to the underserved.
Turner, a passionate speaker who comes across as one who knows how life can be for the less fortunate, revealed that early in his marriage he and his wife, Carolyn, experienced homelessness. Now, after 28 years of marriage and a long track record of giving to the community, Edward and Carolyn have built a thriving church that feeds the community of the 48th AD both literally and figuratively.
When asked what motivated him to run for office, Turner replied, I have lived in the 48th Assembly District most of my life.
On May 20th, Turner and the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Multi-Faith Clergy Council sponsored an African-American/Latino breakfast where more than 700 clergy and community leaders discussed plans for effecting change for the betterment of both communities.
Recently, the Los Angeles Times wrote, Were impressed as well with the passion for change demonstrated by Edward Turner, a field deputy for Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca and a bishop in the Power of Love Christian Fellowship.
The NEDC thanks Bishop Turner for sharing his vision and look forward to working with him as he continues to build bridges.
