Field Trip Requests - Mr. Edward Daft, Principal of East Providence High School was present to request School Committee approval for a trip to London, Paris and Amsterdam from April 14-21, 2005.High School Report - At the request of the Superintendent, Mr. Edward Daft, Principal of East Providence High School outlined high school reform issues and how they are affecting the high school.He explained the Board of Regents Requirements for High School Diploma System Reform.The High School has responded by working on literacy, graduation by proficiency, portfolios and senior project requirements.Mr. Daft expressed a need for a coordinator for senior projects.Mr. Daft advised that this is a working draft; ninth grade parents will be notified by letter about the new graduation requirements and it will also be posted on the website.It needs to be determined what the senior project will look like, but East Providence is right where it should be to achieve the goals in 2008.Personalization at the High School where 15 students are partnered with a teacher; evaluating this program right now; this is a work in progress and will continue to monitor; need to formalize for next year.In response to Mr. Gouveia's question regarding student advisory program, Mr. Daft explained that the purpose is to make a large school into a smaller one to fill the gap.Mr. Daft said there are recommendations from NEASC to reduce the number of levels for classes at the high school.
