Plains, PA (June 3, 2014) - Edward Bachert, a nationally known speaker and researcher for the U.S. Department of Justice and other law-enforcement agencies, presented "How to Feel Safe In An Unsafe World" at the First Hospital Professional Series Lecture held May 15 at the Thomas P. Saxton Medical Pavilion, Edwardsville.
Bachert is a professor at St. Joseph's University, Philadelphia. Among those in attendance are, from left: Anthony Linnen, Community Counseling Services; Mark Schor, CEO, First Hospital; Bachert; Kelly Knorr, CFO, First Hospital, and Dawn Roth, Community Counseling Services.

Edward Bachert, MS
Officer Ed Bachert holds a Master of Science in Criminal Justice from St. Joseph's University, and has over twenty years of experience in criminal justice, education and management. He is currently the Assistant to the Chief of Police for the Allentown Police Department, and is responsible for, among many duties, the management of special projects related to community relations while serving as police liaison to numerous organizations, including schools. A graduate of Allentown Police Academy, Ed has held a wide array of positions in law enforcement including neighborhood community police officer, patrol officer, emergency response team member, hostage negotiator, and police academy instructor. Ed's teaching career has brought him to numerous area colleges and universities, police academies, intermediate units, and over 280 elementary and secondary schools. He maintains an active and busy teaching and lecturing schedule, and has provided training and consultation on a variety of topics impacting youth including gangs, youth violence, hate crimes, drug awareness and identification, weapons, crisis management, violence in the media and Satanism and the occult. Ed is currently on staff as an instructor at 13 area intermediate units, and teaches courses in Gang Violence, Crisis Management and Drug Use and Abuse. He is also professor of Criminal Justice at St Joseph's University, and has written and developed several course including Drugs in Society, Crisis Management, and Violence in Schools. In addition, Ed has received extensive advanced training in a number of subjects including street gangs and youth violence, crisis management, drug interdiction, ethics, and criminology. Prior to becoming a police officer, Ed served as a Child Care Worker and Corrections Officer. He holds numerous awards and honors including Allentown Police Commendation for Heroism, New York City Police Commendation for Achievement, and East Stroudsburg University Teaching Award. He also holds several professional licenses and certifications in criminal justice and law enforcement, and is affiliated with over 15 professional groups including the Fraternal Order of Police, International Narcotics Enforcement Officers Association, and Pennsylvania Association of Student Assistance Professionals. Ed has a deep concern for the well being of young people, and has provided training and consultation to school staffs and other youth workers for several years throughout the eastern United States. He currently serves as a trainer for Project CARE and the Pennsylvania Masonic Foundation for Children. Ed resides with his wife and 4 children in Wind Gap, Pennsylvania.
