Pastor Eddie Deitz
Eddie Deitz is a native of the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina. He was called to preach in 1965, when he was seventeen years old. His ministry has spanned five decades and soon will bring him to fifty years in ministry. While attending Western Carolina University, Eddie pastored three churches: Big Ridge Baptist in Glenville, NC; New Savannah Baptist in Sylva, NC; and Crabree Baptist in Waynesville, NC. Upon leaving the ministry at Crabtree in 1969, Eddie became the baritone singer for "The Inspirations Quartet". He spent over twenty years traveling with this popular group. Eddie sang with them from 1969-1980 and from 1991-2000 when he retired. Between the years of 1980 and 1986 he traveled in fulltime revival work. During those years Eddie preached over forty-five meetings per year. During that time he saw over 2,500 first time conversions to the Lord Jesus Christ. In 1986 Eddie became the pastor of Franklin Grove Baptist Church in Bryson City, N.C., where he served until June of 2003. On July 4th, 2003, Eddie became the pastor of Allens Creek Baptist Church in Waynesville, N.C. In July of 2013 he will celebrate his tenth year as Allens Creek's pastor. Since 2010, on a very limited schedule, he has been singing with other original members of "The Inspirations" in a group called "Smoky Mountain Reunion". Eddie and Sandy, his wife, have two grown children, April who is married to Eric Lambert; and Brandon who is married to Whitney Wiggins Deitz.

Eddie Deitz Suffers Heart Attack - Undergoes Heart Surgery
Asheville, NC - Southern Gospel Music icon, Eddie Deitz, suffered a heart attack Wednesday, May 19 and had Open Heart Surgery, Thursday, May 20 at Memorial Mission Hospital in Asheville, North Carolina.
A catheterization revealed Eddie had severe heart blockage. His doctors determined that stint and balloon procedures would be unsuccessful to open up his clogged arteries and veins, so Eddie was scheduled for bypass surgery. The surgery was originally set for Friday, May 21. However, due to intense pain Eddie was experiencing, his doctors moved the surgery a day ahead.
Eddie began his professional Gospel music career as lead singer for the Inspirations in 1969. He later became their baritone, until leaving the group in 1979 to do full-time evangelism work. He then rejoined the Inspirations in 1991, remaining with them as baritone until late 1998 when he formed Eddie Deitz and Mountain Gospel, consisting of him, his daughter, April Deitz Lambert, son-in-law, Eric Lambert, and his son, Brandon Deitz. Eddie has sung the past several months with Archie Watkins & Smoky Mountain Reunion.
Eddie is also pastor of Allens Creek Baptist Church in Waynesville, N.C., and he formerly pastored Franklin Grove Baptist Church in Bryson City, North Carolina.
Further details about Eddie's surgery will be reported by Singing News as they become available.
Eddie's family, Archie Watkins & Smoky Mountain Reunion and the Inspirations request that Southern Gospel enthusiasts and Singing News patrons remember Eddie in prayer.
