Like Albers, Ed Zapke, president of the South Charlotte County Coalition, said FDOT's reconsideration of speed limits was good news.
More than two years ago, the coalition of homeowner associations approached the Charlotte County-Punta Gorda Metropolitan Planning Organization

The South Charlotte County Coalition
is a coalition of property owner associations from the Peace River southward, formed in 2003.
Its mission is to enable, enhance and improve the quality of life for the residents of south Charlotte County.
When the coalition was formed, it identified items of interest which included beautification, water management, traffic, evacuation, green space, emergency services and taxes among others.
Ed Zapke was the President from 2005 to 2007 and is the representative for the Punta Gorda Isles Civic Association.

board and is granted authorization to speak on behalf of the association when appropriate.

in 1999 after a 30 year career teaching secondary mathematics for grades 7 through 12 in New York.

He served as the Secondary Mathematics Program Chairperson and was a consultant to the New York State Education Department, Mathematics Bureau.
Ed was the President of the Suffolk County Mathematics Teachers Association and the NYS Association of Mathematics Supervisors and co-founded the Long Island Mathematics Conference Board.
received several awards for Mathematics Teaching and Contributions to Mathematics Education.

He has served on the PGICA board since 2001 and was President in 2002.
He is on the Executive Board of the South Charlotte County Coalition and was selected to participate in the Charlotte Assembly in 2007.
He serves on several Advisory Boards including TEAM Punta Gorda, Burnt Store Initiative, Punta Gorda Advisory Planning Board and Metro.

worked with Dave Phelen and Pete McLewin to expand the voice of area Homeowner Associations by representing them with one voice.
Ed serves on the Board of the SCCC/MPO and acts as its' liaison on the PGICA Board.

She was a social worker, but prior to retirement worked for a hospice caring for patients from infants to the elderly.
taught math…remedial to calculus from seventh grade to college.
He was Chairman of his Math Department, President of the Suffolk County Teachers' Association and went on to a State Supervisor's Association position.
wrote curriculum for local and state agencies and gained a wealth of experience working with Boards and political entities.
After a teaching career of thirty years, Ed

side searched for warmer weather and followed friends south to Punta Gorda
As President of PGICA in 2003, he helped formulate the move out of our West Marion location, a superb decision we remain grateful for today.
We thank him for continuously striving to improve the quality of life in our community.
