Departing Algonquin Deputy Police Chief Ed Urban and wife, Diane, decided to take a pass on the usual "have a nice retirement" gift and asked friends and colleagues to use the money that would have bought, say, a set of custom mink-lined sterling silver laser-monogrammed Ping golf clubs and give it to the Illinois Special Olympics and St. Jude children's hospital.
The amount announced at Urban's send-off at Golf Club Of Illinois Friday was over $900.
spent 13 of his
25 years at Algonquin PD as a Deputy Chief.
Boss Russ Laine said Urban
had an uncanny ability "to tell me when I was wrong only make me think it was my own idea.
Laine hastened to add that while it was a marvelous skill, Urban
didn't have to exercise it very often.
