Ed Urban's Presentation to the MSHP

Mr. Ed Urban, local resident and graduate of MCHS, graced the Marengo community once again with a very interesting program, "The Dark Side of Marengo and McHenry County", at the June 10, 2010 meeting held in the basement fellowship room of the United Methodist Church. This program brought a greater awareness of police work and the unique situations involving murders that occured before 1940. The audience had many questions for Ed following his formal presentation!
At the February, 2009, MSHP meeting, Ed had presented the program, "Marengo in the Civil War". The large group attending truly gained a greater knowledge of Marengo's volunteers. Ed is a long-time member of the McHenry County Civil War Round Table.
...
The MSHP was greatly appreciative of Mr. Urban's research on the subject and all the additional comments made by those in attendance. Urban commented that even he was amazed at the amount of information available, admitting that there is more information to be discovered.

Departing Algonquin Deputy Police Chief Ed Urban and wife, Diane, decided to take a pass on the usual "have a nice retirement" gift and asked friends and colleagues to use the money that would have bought, say, a set of custom mink-lined sterling silver laser-monogrammed Ping golf clubs and give it to the Illinois Special Olympics and St. Jude children's hospital. The amount announced at Urban's send-off at Golf Club Of Illinois Friday was over $900.

Urban spent 13 of his 25 years at Algonquin PD as a Deputy Chief. Boss Russ Laine said Urban had an uncanny ability "to tell me when I was wrong only make me think it was my own idea.

Laine hastened to add that while it was a marvelous skill, Urban didn't have to exercise it very often.

Congratulations, Ed, on your retirement and then again on your new career area. What many people don't know is that Ed is an historian and is very knowledgeable and articulate about old crime stories in McHenry County as well as other unique pieces of county history.
