is a third generation cranberry grower who grew up with his
4 siblings on the family farm, Valley Corporation
in Tomah, Wisconsin.
As early as 1891, cranberries were harvested on this farm.
Ed's grandfather managed Valley Corporation
in the 1930's and became the owner in the 1950's.
Ed's father took over the responsibly of the operation after his
grandfather's retirement and took the farm a step further than just cranberry growing.
He was a pioneer in grower conducted cranberry breeding and is still involved today.
From breeding work his
father performed in the mid 1970's, Valley Corporation
has been transformed into a productive 100 acre farm through renovation and planting of new hybrid varieties.
continues the work of his
father with even more promising cranberry hybrids.
Currently, Valley Corporation
is in the process of expansion with hopes that the family tradition will continue.
Ed attended UW Stevens Point and earned a chemistry degree.
always knew he
would return to the farm and start a family of his
wife Ann at college and soon after they married, returned to the farm.
and Ann have been married for 15 years and have two boys ages 9 and 6 and a girl age 3.
Ed's sister also lives on farm with her
husband and 2 children.
has been an Ocean Spray grower since the 1950's.
is passionate about the Ocean Spray's cooperative structure.
feels it is the direct grower involvement which has made Ocean Spray the success it is today.
Ed serves on Ocean Spray's Grower Council and also serves on the Wisconsin Cranberry Board.
