Ed Boarini, general manager of Teleflex Medical OEM in Kenosha, WI. Teleflex develops and manufactures custom medical devices and orthopedic surgical instruments.
Ed Boarini: Because we serve such a broad market, we tend to see a large range of products, and we see that customers are beginning to ask for more of a full-service capability. Boarini: We try to stay in the confines of what we see as our strengths, so we try not to be everything to everybody.
Boarini: We're seeing some increase in their desire for us to have certification from FDA and ISO 13485.
Boarini: When an OEM looks at shifting more to the outside, they still end up buying a lot of components.
Boarini: Right now, we're not seeing much effect at all.
Boarini: I don't think they're interchangeable terms.
Boarini: There's a trend toward more finished devices, so we have to sort out what that means to us as far as capacity, capabilities, packaging and labeling and other things like that.
