Dr. Griggs is the chief pathologist for Forensic Services LLC as well as an attorney who lectures regularly on medical-legal topics of interest to coroners, physicians, and lawyers. He is a board-certified pathologist in both Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, and has worked with Johns Hopkins as a resident on fellowship in pathology. In addition to his medical experience, Dr. Griggs was also admitted to practice law in the Supreme Court of Indiana and the Northern and Southern District Federal Courts of Indiana. Since his admission to the Bar, he has worked as a medical/legal consultant, and currently runs a private General Law Practice, specializing in medical negligence and personal injury cases. He has authored several medical and legal publications, including contributions to a medical-legal textbook and many continuing legal education seminars. Dr. Griggs' law practice is unique in that he is able to fly to meet with clients; avoiding the hassle of his clients travelling to a law office, and approaches both pathology and the law with an eye for detail and a curiosity for discovery. As both an attorney and a medical doctor, Dr. Griggs prides himself on bringing a unique perspective to both medicine and the law, allowing each side to inform the other in thoughtful, careful, and reliable ways. The Board thanked and congratulated E. Allen Griggs, M.D., J.D., Laboratory Medical Director and the MHMC lab staff for recently being awarded an accreditation by the Commission on Laboratory Accreditation of the College of American Pathologists (CAP).
The CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program is recognized as being equal to or more stringent than the federal government's inspection program and is widely recognized as the "gold standard" and has served as a model for various federal, state, and private laboratory accreditation programs throughout the world. As part of the on-site survey, inspectors examine the records and quality control of the laboratory for the preceding two years, as well as the education and qualifications of the total staff, the facilities, the equipment, performance improvement, laboratory safety, and laboratory management to determine how well the laboratory is serving the patient. "Receiving this accreditation is a very good indication to our patients and the public that the hospital maintains the highest quality laboratory," explained Dr. Griggs.
