The Sterling Renaissance Festival, which announced Monday it has the cash to open as planned, secured a bank loan which provided most of the needed funds, owner Doug Waterbury said.

Waterbury said the festival received a $285,000 bank loan, which along with the $16,000 in donations from the public is allowing the festival to open July 5. Waterbury declined to name the bank providing the loan.
"Everyone is feeling a lot better now,'' Waterbury said, "and the loan along with our customer support has helped us. It's been a true partnership,'' he said.
The festival had launched a drive to solicit contributions from the public on the online RocketHub site, and collected nearly $15,000 in a week, Waterbury said.
The festival had been in danger of not being able to open this summer because it didn't have $300,000 needed to get the event rolling.
Waterbury said opening weekend at the festival will be a Family and Friends weekend, where people who buy an admission ticket get the second one at half price - or a child can get in for free.

Doug Waterbury, owner of the park, said employees have had "all kinds of interesting encounters" with spirits on the site for decades.

"Many employees had glass bottles fly across the room and shatter," he said. He added he has never been on the receiving end of such a bottle, nor any other ghost tale.
Waterbury and several employees, past and present, were interviewed for the show, he said. He would not go into details that will be revealed in the show, but said there were "significant findings" from the investigation.
Paranormal experiences are nothing new for the park, with Halloween-themed activities overtaking the month of October, but the real-life ghost stories have been kept hush-hush until now, Waterbury said, claiming previous management's nervousness.
But the "Ghost Hunters" episode could do nothing but good for the park, he added.
"Most people today are, at minimum, curious about these types of things, and I think it adds character to the property and is a definite plus," he said.
