Port Angeles, Wash. - Two Port Angeles High School music teachers, Doug Gailey and Jolene Dalton Gailey, and Dewey Ehling, conductor of the Peninsula Singers and musical director and conductor for the Port Townsend Community Orchestra, were honored by the Washington Music Educator Association (WMEA) at its biennial conference in Yakima last weekend.
and Jolene Gailey are key elements to our successful programs and students.
Doug Gailey, director of the Port Angeles High School Band Program, was selected as the WMEA's 2010 High School Outstanding Music Educator of the Year.
Gailey, in his 24th year of teaching music, began his career in Utah and has taught band and percussion at Port Angeles High School since 1991.
Past WMEA President Don noted his
"well rounded programs continue to enjoy a reputation for quality and success.
Highlights for Mr. Gailey
have included the opportunity to perform at the Percussive Arts Society National Convention
, on the main stage at the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival in Washington, D. C., and in China."

"Nominations are accepted from anyone who is a member of the Washington Music Educators Association
Mr. Gailey was nominated by a former student who is now teaching band in this state.
A very high honor, indeed!
A committee looks at all nominations in November and, based on the tributes written, select one in each of the grade levels.
This year Mr. Gailey
emerged as the top candidate for High School Music Educator of the Year
"One of Doug's greatest rewards of his
accomplishments as an educator," Clausen
said, "is to watch as numerous former students have become excellent music educators as well.
Gailey earned his Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from the University of Washington in 1984 and his Master of Music in Instrumental Conducting from the University of Utah in 1986.
