Pastor Doug Banister looked back at a year in which senseless killings claimed lives and damaged families, most recently the gang-connected shooting that left two young men dead. One was an alleged gunman and the other killed was a 15-year-old hero who died protecting others.

I thought the community would want to know," said Banister.
Banister is the pastor of All Souls Church where the members meet every Sunday at Café 4. He says the church's mission is to seek the peace and well-being of the city.
"We don't have a building. We don't have a lot of programs. We just encourage our people to be out in the different neighborhoods downtown serving," said Banister.
Pastor Banister is also a volunteer swim coach with the Emerald Youth Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to helping at risk youth. He says some of the youth are being preyed upon by gang members.
"This young man's father is in jail. He is looking for love. He is looking for support and he's being actively recruited by a gang and if we don't provide alternatives he's going to end up in a hearse someday," said Banister.
Pastor Banister says more help is needed.
"We've got kids wondering if they are going to live through high school. It just breaks my heart," said Banister.
Banister says there are many opportunities to make a difference.
